Actually, thinking about it, there have been 3 recent sets that had lots of artifact help in them: Shards of Alara, M11 and Scars, with M11 more of having 4 or so cards that help. I think, no idea where I heard it from, that the name of the last set in the scars block will be Mirrodin Pure, which could represent either Phyrexia fully assimilating Mirrodin or the Mirrans pushing the Phyrexians out. |

I have always been intrigued by this game, but never want to spend money on it. Is there a way for me to play this without spending money that everyone still does?

But of course, Whendilin. MWS is a popular free card game program which you can upload MTG cards to and play online with others. It's very manual, since you have to upload each new set to it, and there is a lot of clicking, but it works if you want to play for free. I would still recommend going out and meeting other players, though, since the game is more about interacting and having fun with other people.

Phyrexia did in fact blow up, asplode and has ceased to be. However, when Karn was gifted a piece of the legacy, it was tainted with Phyrexian oil, which is essentially a mutagen that evolves life that it touches back to Phyrexia's greatness. Karn made Mirrodin and while there a drop of the oil ended up somewhere on it. The official explanation for the sequence of events on Mirrodin last time we were there was that Memnarch was corrupted by the oil. After a long while the oil has created more of itself, and has mutated many beings who have essentially become the new Phyrexians. So, after assimilating enough forces, the new Phyrexians are now starting to come out their hiding places on Mirrodin and are starting to assimilate the plane.
