Damn it Ianki! It would of been nice if you referenced this thread when you messaged me on Steam about playing Magic with you and Trace before promptly signing off. I wasted a good bit of time downloading and installing the official WotC Magic Online game before I bothered to check if you might have mentioned what the hell you were talking about on the boards I'm downloading the lackey software but I'm pretty addicted to League of Legends right now.

I've been lurking this thread quite a bit, but I used to play Magic when it first came out, I'm worried getting into it would just kill me on rulesets. Alpha/Beta through.... Snow-covered lands(Whatever xpac that was) is all I got to before moving on to computer gaming.
Sufficed to say I'm still intrigued, but I have to ask: Is it practically a given that you have to play hybrid decks? Due to the nature of the game when I played it, you could build very potent mono-coloured decks, and win convincingly(I'm looking at you Fortified Area/Holy Armour/Jihad/Flyer deck). Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. -Albert Einstein |

Hybrid decks are very popular because of the recent sets, what with the recent alara block consisting of nothing but multicolored cards, the lorwynn/shadowmoor set consisting of dual-colors (like a 1/1 that costs either one black or one red, and is black and red), and then the ravnica set before it. I run a vintage mono-red deck that can win on the 3rd turn should I pack enough power via goblin grenades and goblin guides (basically a raging goblin, but a 2/2 and with a rather obtuse ability). |

[/quote] http://www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Article...agic/rules i don't think the rules have changed all that dramatically. the use of a stacking spell system is different from when i was a kid, but it's a lot more intuitive. Oh, and no more mana burn apparently. Granted, i'm not very good at building decks or playing them, but i'm finding mono decks/duel color decks more manageable. fucking around with tricolor decks was a frustrating experience. It's a bit daunting to have every magic card available to you when building decks in lackeyccg. You're almost guaranteed to miss a card that does exactly what your chosen card does but for a lower cost. |
