The system is fine, other than a small tweak to get the newer weapons first.  The problem is that the full system hasn't been put in, making the system as it is now useless.  It was really stupid of Valve to release the new unlock system in separate parts.

The new unlock system would be great and would accomplish everything Valve wanted it to if it made sure to give you one of every item before it started handing out repeats (excluding hats, since they want those to be rare).

It's fine but it's not excellent, which is more or less as it was before.

There's less wonder and novelty in the weapons, I no longer get to feel accomplished when I unlock them, and I don't have to be good or dedicated to a class to get them, so you end up with a few things.

Firstly, more people grief with unlocks because they're too inexperienced to use them properly, or too naive to use the more useful original weapons.

Also, class imbalances are longer and more crippling, because instead of having cut your teeth in the process of getting unlocks, you're just playing "let's-see-what-this-button-does" with your brand new toy.

And to cap it all off, wholly half of all servers are now 24/7 2fort. : <

Brotip: Give us weapons off the bat, unlock hats with achievements. I think I posted this but it bears repeating. Lazy asses who would normally farm achievements would have their weapons, and people who find satisfaction in putting effort into getting things would still have something to work for. Of course the Lazy asses would bitch about having to unlock hats but they're bitching about hats, who cares what they think.

Oh god I just got the Cloak and Dagger and it is so amazing.  The wait was worth it.

Personally, the thing that pisses me off about the new unlock system is that Valve has admitted that the release is not complete.  You don't give someone the bun and tell them that they'll get the meat and cheese later.  I wonder how Valve thought it was a good idea.

I just got the Cloak and Dagger last night also and it's pretty nice.  A different style to the normal cloak since you don't last as long and you can't string along your cloaked run with ammo, so it's more for the patient spy, but it is kinda nice.  Basically like camping someones dispenser without being near a dispenser.

I would agree with this if we were paying for the content but we are not.  Yeah the system is really, really, really bad, but no one has a right to complain.  Valve could quite easily have decided to charge for these class packs or never even do them in the first place.

so I've played about 2.5 hours since the update came out and unlocked the huntsman, cloak and dagger, shield thing, and ambassador. I also unlocked no duplicates or old items.
