That hardware kit is really over priced.
You can buy all the parts you need from a fastener supplier for less then half of that and have enough parts to build two machines. |

First one: backed
Second one: a little too pricey for me, but cool idea. My plan this weekend is to get the last of my shit put together, by the way. "If you want to be a Double E, bend over and grab your knees...." The extruder is a nice attempt, good pricing structure.
However, it is based on 2010 hot end designs. There has been a lot of development in in the past year. The current methodology is to shorten the melting zone as much as possible, but retain a reservoir to keep up with spike demands. The design in the kick starter is basically a makerbot clone. You are heating a large aluminum block, threaded onto a stainless steel tube and into a brass nozzle. First problem is that bass expands more then steel and can leak at the threads. Second issue is that the filament will heat and expand inside the steel tube, causing jams. This is a huge issue with PLA. Third issue comes when clearing a jam, as you must disassemble and burn off the build up with a torch. The fixed size of the steel tube does not adapt for variations in filament size. You are better off investing in a jhead or an arcol hot end. Both are current designs. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 |

Built a number of items, only a few of which that I designed myself. The biggest obstacle for me now is the understanding of CAD software. Sketch up isn't well suited and I have decided to self learn Solidworks.
Besides countless calibration objects, I built a number of props and parts for my TF2 cosplays, new parts for the printer, parts for cars, etc. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 |
