Now not to argue or anything, but who sets this standard of 'when its ok' to get engaged/married?  I love this girl with all my heart and I never want to be apart from her...Why should I have to wait a couple of years cause it just isn't the societal-ly determined time yet?

I'm really happy for you and everything, and i hope everything turns out fine for both of you, but i'm with Vlambo on this one.

I think me and the big V agree not on the point on when it is "socially acceptable", hell, if i could i would marry my gf right now, but getting married implies a lot of responsibilities and not only "social" ones, but monetary as well. That's why most people wait until they are older to do so. Because formal relationships costs money, a lot. It is somehow even more expensive than just living together. And you must remember, that if things don't turn out (Because no matter how much you love each other, any relationship is a can full of gas where you shoot matches hoping they don't land inside) you'll be left with an economic burden you might not be able to whitstand.

If i'm talking bs and you already have a good income and stable job, ignore me and congratulations :3

Getting engaged doesnt mean getting married within a year, we probably won't be getting married until we've graduated from university anyways.  And i've found its actually cheaper living with her than alone haha
