PC Left4Dead may use "matchmaking" with no server browser

This game is about shooting a whole bunch of angry people, but is also causing a lot of people to get angry. Maybe those angry people will mutate and will start spreading the angry virus, causing the downfall of civilization and a scenario that mimics the game. :O

Seriously though, it'll probably get patched soon enough. The game isn't out yet anyway, so they've surely got time to stick the server list back in, even if it is in the same style as the TF2 and CS ones.

Yea..no server browser. Not to mention because of it..there is a very unhealthy supply of dedicated servers. This=epic fail. I've already written bad words to Valve. I'd suggest you do so as well.

Sorry x3 Sakefox has just informed me that they know how to get the servers to work for us the way we want them to. There is a command you need to enter for the server

sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0

this makes it so the only way you can join the server is with the connect command from console

This doesn't fix the problem, you want RANDOMS to be able to find your server and return to it if they want to. Not everyone here came in the original "dtoid" batch of players when we founded this. A good portion of people here came because they were randomly server browsing, found something that they liked and decided to stick with it.

Under this method valve has put forward, this will not happen at all.

Of course they fixed things. And do you know why? It wasn't because of your blind, fanboy-placed faith in valve. It was because there was a huge shitstorm from server admin community, issuing a dickslap for the ages straight to Valve's face. That's what knocked some sense into them.

But also, the reason I said this is that I assume everyone on here enjoys most, if not at least one, of Valve's games. I have reason to trust, and does it make any difference for douchebags to go off spouting their, "OH NO THEY MADE ANNOUNCEMENT GAME RUINED NOW" without even having an opportunity to try it out?

And thank god that it's there, the lobby system was the worst idea ever... Matchmaking sucks the big one on the PC.... And for people who manage dedicated servers... (Read ME!) it was even worse... As soon as I turned on my server it was filled with people from the lobbies... Not even giving me a chance to get on MY OWN server... The game itself is awesome, yes, but the lobby/matchmaking system is the most crappy system I've ever used in my life... Valve didn't get it right right away but at least they listened to the shit storm and reacted bloody fast. I'll give them credit for that but not having a server browser at the start was epic fail....

Server admins are NOT douschbags, we are the ground game that makes Valve's games what they are, there's mutual cooperation. Server admins, mappers, modders, and coders, being in the position we are, reserve the right to dick slap Valve if we don't like something they do. And it was a pretty unanimous voice.

This isn't some game play 'try it out' feature, its a fundamental change from what PC games and gamers are based on. We don't have to 'try it' for left4dead, we probably all tried it with an Xbox, and we reject it outright. There is no 'have faith in valve' or 'give it a chance', if you don't speak out, and speak out loudly, no one will hear you.

There have been similar epic shit storms on the HLDS over the tag system in tf2, and locked cvars such as max player, friendly fire, and respawn timers among other things. And by and large they listen to us, but only when we let them know what our problem is.

Of all the times Valve has made the "right decision" I think you would be surprised at how many times its been because the inner community their their arms in the air and cried foul.

There's nothing to disagree with in what you said but I would add that Valve got shit done and fixed it (or at least have made steps in the direction the community has requested) PDQ. I'm looking in on the relationship as an outsider but it seems obviously to be a symbiotic one with a load of give and take on either side and based on people's attitudes over the years I'm guessing there aren't many companies as willing to 'give' as Valve.
