So, What's Karrde Been Doing Instead of Gaming

I secretly want to make a cosplay outfit for next halloween...

(I know a little different than comic-cons and stuff...)

So here's the progress I've made.

I went straight from the extruded polystyrene to the wonderflex plastic, didn't bother with paper mache (good thing too). Here's how it looks coated completely:



And how it looks as of today, fully painted with all the bells and whistles.





I've tried wearing it, I think the straps will hold. They're secured in with heavy staples, wonderflex, lots of tape, and some liquid cement that actually burned through the polystyrene a bit.

I can't think of a way to make something like that, so I've been turning to ebay. Here's the closest results I've found so far:

I can't tell by the photos, but something tells me they're the same product. Will probably go for the former though.

And I have no idea how to make the medigun. I've got some PVC pipe for the length of it and something for the tip, but not the bulky part and handles.

Make with foam, cover with fiberglass, melt foam with acetone.

Yeah - the only problem is that they're gonna last like - forever - no idea if I can really use that many golden wrenches...

Obviously the golden wrench   I got kinda lazy and decided not to polish it up.  Some of the details are a little rough.  I coulda fixed them but I wasn't sure I was going to have time when I was at that stage.



Line worker's glove.



Mining light.  Threaded the wiring through a hole I drilled in the helmet.  Wire will run under the shirt.  The power pack is obviously in the unfinished satchel pack, which goes on the belt.  Yes the light actually works



Knee pads.  The nylon was originally navy blue (now black), the plastic was originally white (now yellow).

Costuming is about fun, not whats ffffffffff amazing or not.  Besides, from what I've seen, your guys' props are also categorically kickass   And remember, half of that is bought   The only scratch built piece there is the wrench.

Ignore the bare feet.  My boots of awesome that I've used for a bunch of costumes take 10 minutes to get into.  Other than that, the wire is gonna run underneath the costume, and I don't think I'm going to make any additional changes.  I was going to do a towering hat of hats with the Texas 10 Gallon and the Train Engineers hat, but didn't want to spend the additional money.
