FYI diazapam IS a benzo, and a pretty nasty one at that (valium). I don't think many physicians would use valium as a first line option for outpatient benzo detox.

I support weed, but I do not partake;
1.I can't seem to find that rumored "Smart-Pothead", only the annoying "Mahhn", Wondering, Trance pothead. 2.I can't imagine being high, I'm a mess with keeping everything together and a mess of anger issues. I'm afraid if I smoke some, all the rage that composes my being will evaporate and I will simply cease to exist. and 3. Too much legal trouble. Blue Crew.....I got nothing flashy set up.

So...
Quote:In panic disorder, a person suffers from brief attacks of intense terror and apprehension, often marked by trembling, shaking, confusion, dizziness, nausea, difficulty breathing. These panic attacks, defined by the APA as fear or discomfort that abruptly arises and peaks in less than ten minutes, can last for several hours and can be triggered by stress, fear, or even exercise; although the specific cause is not always apparent. So, the first occurrence of the panic attack... I was in the shower after smoking (hides the smell 8)) and I noticed a sensation in my foot, obviously caused by the increased heart rate of smoking up. I freaked out, though my weed was laced, my foot felt like the veins were going to burst out, sounds freaked me out, etc. I was just high as fuck and panicking... Now, I smoke a lot without panic attacks, and since the first panic attack... I've had maybe 2 full on panic attacks where I'm convinced I'm going to die. Sometimes, I get semi-panic attacks, where like above, I feel my heartbeat (in my neck, or foot, or groin, or my chest, it's always different) but because I know I'm fine, and if I watch a movie/do something, I usually stop noticing it. I'm assuming the first panic attack was caused by either the meds I used to take in my childhood (Ritalin, Dexadrin, maybe there was another) or my Strattera, but I think the Strattera is fine. Or maybe even just paranoia caused from being high... (seems like the most likely scenario, I was tripping hard to the point where I was almost hallucinating lol). So maybe it's just something I can get over myself... after all, anxiety is treated via therapy, so it's obviously something that can be gotten rid of... I don't really want to talk to my doctor... just seems stupid. :-\ |

As soon as you said "I'm convinced I'm going to die" I felt some little warning bell going off. That is exactly what a true panic attack is described as. This is NOT normal, and I would imagine not related to the pot or anything else at all.
When I was researching general anxiety disorder, that's a lot of what I was finding. Anxiety is not necessarily just treated via therapy. There's a reason you go to talk to someone, INCLUDING your doctor, about it. Yes, therapy helps but it's because it helps find the SOURCE of your anxiety so you can get through whatever is causing it. If you just assume "oh I'll just get over this on my own" maybe you will, but probably you won't. If you have no fucking clue why you're having these, you're going to need some help to figure it out. Just suck it up, get the help. I don't see why so many people don't want to do this, like it's some kind of horrifying stigma. There is nothing wrong with it, and they are not going to tell you you're crazy or anything like that at all. They're very helpful and I know that without the counsellor I saw, I would never have gotten past it and would not be where I am now. I also would not have gotten there if I hadn't talked to my doctor about it as well. If you do end up finding someone to talk to about it, don't feel like you're trapped. You need to find someone who you can get along with or feel comfortable with. It took me a few tries and I dumped the ones that I didn't like, simply because I knew that I needed to be comfortable to get the help I needed. It is OK to keep looking until you find someone you're comfortable getting help from and telling deep things to. Kind of like a mate. It's your health in your hands, so make sure you put it where you feel most comfortable putting it. |

I had full on text book ones where I thought I couldn't breath and was going to die. Haven't had them since I stopped. As far as I understood, it wasn't that you felt you were going to die because you couldn't breathe; some panic attacks are filled with the invasive sense that you are going to die. No idea how, why or when, just that you will somehow die. It is a certainty until the attack is over. Ah, never mind. I can't make anyone do anything. I just think you shouldn't suffer for something that is in your hands to work out. |

I like talking on the internet.
Also, panic disorder vs anxiety, I might not even have anxiety at all, or maybe they are related, etc. And yeah, I'm talking genuine real panic attacks, I've had like 2/3 now. They only happen when I've smoked a lot (and my weed is usually good stuff). It could just be anxiety, it's probably related to distorted senses when I'm high. I notice EVERY sound, etc, and that's how I start noticing my heart beat, which in turn combined with paranoia just snowballs into me flipping out over the dumbest thing (lol my weed is laced with meth). When I watch a movie, I never have panic attacks. When I'm focused on a game, no panic attacks. When I'm talking with someone, no panic attacks. It's only when I'm alone and start to worry about my heart beat (which is perfectly fine). That's the cause as far as I can tell. =\ I think I'm just paranoid... one time I got high, heard sounds from outside, and somehow managed to convince myself my neighbors got murdered. Yeah... :-\ Oh, but last night, I was on the way to having one, but sort of the more it happens, the more apparent that it's just a panic attack, so I relax a lot easier. Edit: Something I've also noticed is that these only happen towards the end of the day, probably around when my Strattera is wearing off. Apparently Strattera helps with anxiety, and it makes sense, I guess... :-\ Either way, I will talk to my doctor, but not until my next scheduled prescription renewal (which should be less than 6 months from now).
