So i read the some Zombie Survival book by a guy that writes for New York Times.

It was pretty stupid and most of it was stuff i would never recommend to be used in a zombie apocalypse.

One of the tips was "Obey the Law!"

Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton.
It's about pirates in an English island colony sometime in the late 1600s I think. It's a book about pirates being pirates. It's fucking awesome. Go read it.

Yeah parts of it i liked, but the part that annoyed me the most was "Obey the law"

That book along with World War Z was such bullshit.  For a guy supposedly writing about "real" zombies he doesn't seem to understand that long term freezing would kill them.  And many other errors.

I really tried giving Atlas Shrugged a read recently. I read an article in the Times talking about how her work continues to have legions of fans, and I know my alma matter is big into her work. I picked it up at B&N, put some coffee in a french press, and dug in. ("her" being Ayn Rand: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayn_rand)

I seriously couldn't make it past 200 pages. Each paragraph was a labor to get through, as she would describe incredibly simple things in innate, ridiculous detail that had nothing to do with the subject matter. One page, a man starts walking across a room, and 10 pages later you read "and like a majestic tide, sweeping across the rocks, an incredible force of nature and a testament to the glory of man he reached the other side" and you realize everything you just read through was somehow a description of his gait. It felt like banging my head into a poorly-organized dictionary for a week.

Inaccuracies??? In my zombie fiction that was created in the author's own world which may or may not have a correlation to the real world? Preposterous!

I've started the Discworld series last month (only over 20 years late) and I've started the second book this weekend. I love them so far, the witty way of writing reminds me of Douglas Adams and it's making me laugh quite a bit. I haven't read fiction in ages before this but I'm hooked again.

ive started (and gotten about 75% through at least 2x) the first book like 5 times and for some reason just never finish... granted I do this with video games that I love too, but usually not with books.. I dunno - I've been into harry dresden lately, so maybe once I finish all 10 or 12 of those, i'll move back to disc.

I did like what I read though.

You guys sure take your zombie survival guides seriously, which is a good thing I guess, if you're into zombie apocalypses. I myself am preparing for the Martian apocalypse, and you should see the guide book for that! Its frankly ridiculous! Martian rayguns, first of all, cannot operate under 25 degrees Fahrenheit so the South Pole would be the perfect spot for a bunker, despite the guide instructing you otherwise! Ridiculous! I'd be willing to go half and half on a South Pole emergency secret base with you guys for use in the upcoming Martian/Zombie apocalypse though, if you're interested.

Everybody knows that long term freezing would kill zombies. Just look at the many, many studies done on the biology of real-life zombies, which totally exist, and you'll see that this book, which is completely serious and was not written for entertainment purposes whatsoever, makes some frankly outrageous claims about people infected by a virus that gives them an insatiable appetite for human flesh and allows them to continue functioning without the majority of their vital organs.

The Stranger and The Plague, both by Albert Camus.  This is the first time I've ever read something that pretty closely matches with how I think.  I have a new semi-favorite author.
