So I'm back and forth on this. I'm not going to lie if I get one it will be to "purchase" lots of books on my reading list, emphasis on the quotation marks. Anyone know anything about them and if I can make it worth the purchase? I'm looking at the pros of no longer having to pile books and being able to get a bunch of the stuff I wanted to read really fast at a "discount" versus the fact that it costs a lot of money and I still think it kinda looks funny.

I would recommend the Kindle if you're thinking about this. There's a large selection of books and periodicals available, you can use USB, wifi, or the Kindle's 3G (which is paid for by Amazon) to get material onto it, and it has good battery life. Prices aren't crazy, but you can load it with pdfs, docs, txts, html if you have a place to get books in those formats. Not sure how it handles formatting if you do that though. I think it's probably best for people who travel a lot, because having a suitcase full of books is a bummer.

I got a sony eReader on super sale at Books-A-Million of all places. My wife has 20% off from being an ALA member and they had a $100 off deal that had expired. The clerk gave me both discounts anyway. I don't think he was supposed to....

I got an app on my iphone called Stanza... it has a list of websites that have the "free domain" books such as all the classics etc. I've been getting into reading all those "best books of all time" because my parents just built a library in their house... so my dad's been going nuts with trying to get full sets of classics. So far we have the Harvard 5 ft. shelf of knowledge.... Anyhoo I have been looking for one that allows you to add files from your own hdd... that I "purchased" from the web...not sure if there is one/ how easy it is.
update... lexcycle.com has a desktop program linked with this iphone app... seems like it should work great.. for anyone with ipod touch/ iphone trust me... I'm a 2L

I have to say that if you are a frequent reader it is most definitely a good purchase. I'm already in love with mine. Edit: awww fuck you get Tipping Point for free with a pre-order and it looks amazing. Yea I've got buyers remorse now :'(
