I finally bought minecraft. You guys aren't very nub-friendly.

1) what should my clientside settings be?
2) what mods/skins/etc should i install?
3) how do i get on the server?
4) is the server even running stock right now?

also i can't find the whitelist request thread. So whitelist me or something, my username's at0m.

skins cannot be edited right now because of the way they are mirroring the website temporarily to handle the load until they can get a better hosting setup

Do I have to hunt for monster spawners to make a monster trap? I tried a dark-spawn trap with a cactus and a lava blade, although I have to make it MUCH MUCH larger I think. Also, thinking of adding surface access to snag animals, but I'll have to move way out of Vennora to do that since it'd be a pit from the surface way way down to a lava blade trap.

yeah you need to find a dungeon, and keep it dark. if it goes above a certain light level (redstone torch is the max? i think?) stuff stops spawning

they have spawners, they're blue cages with flaming spinning mini monsters inside of them. you can't harvest them and move them, so you have to make a trap in the dungeon

They have a little wire-frame block in the middle, on the floor, a mob spawner block. It spawns mobs very quickly up to that specific block's maximum mob count (normally 3) then it stops. Kill one and one will replace it fairly quickly. Place lots of torches around it, it stops spawning.

I know what they look like, but was just curious if the spawn chance was increased on top of that, since someone else said in mumble that not all dungeons have spawners.

I think I'll just develop some rapid transport to a farm in the middle of nowhere somewhere near vennora. Too bad they don't spawn on glass, or I'd just build it ABOVE Vennora
