Also, I may *possibly* be able to help with getting a server running on my box-in-a-closet if you can't find anything else. I emphasize possibly because I don't know how much work it will be or if I'll necessarily know how to setup servers for other games, and I'm sure Wedge would hate me forever if every game we played was hosted in Beantown.

We're going to be sticking with 1 game for a full month, so there will be plenty of time to join in.
My assumption was it would start early afternoon and go as late as people were still playing. Regarding the software, I'm going to get all the details next week and post them up. If we could have share-ware quake and custom maps, that would rule. If not, I'll find steam/GoG links (you guys can find torrents). ScottyG seems to have found a server which is good, and if you guys have a vent server, it sounds like things are coming together quite nicely |

A very quick google search shows you can get it going on Linux, so I'm hopefully going to try to get a Quake 1 server going on on it this weekend. Let's see how badly I can screw it up. ^_^ We do have a vent server as well. Would WinQuake work for this? I have it on my flash drive but haven't played with it too much.

I'm just posting up something on NG with all the info.
Basically, you need Quake 1, QuakeWorld and to set up a few variables. This is all according to ScottyG |

*still can't believe what kept him from getting the server up weeks ago...*
Keep in mind that there is a 16 player limit. I would like to think that can be upped, and will try tonight, but all documentation says no more than 16. And we're good with using our vent server. Here is the connection info. A reminder about this, which is happening again tonight!
I set up a map rotation of a few highly rated deathmatch maps. I'd highly recommend you download them in advance, as the download rate ingame is like 2kb/s (which even for a 500K map means a long download). I also added some skins for your viewing pleasure. ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quakeworld/skins/skinbase.zip ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quakeworld/skins/qw_skins.zip To install them just download those files, and extract them into either the Quake/qw/maps or Quake/qw/skins directory. The server to connect to is 18.243.2.105, and we'll be using the Quake room in the vent server for voice chat. Feel free to stop by anytime to play. Even now, as I know there are plenty of Euros over at Negative Gamer and some of them are already itching to play! EDIT: fail linking in bbcode is fail Caffeine`brb!u: /facepalm Caffeine`brb!u: you have the technological ability of Dede Caffeine`brb!u: OOOOOOO what does this button do Caffeine`brb!u: *break* Caffeine`brb!u: SCOTTY GET OUT OF MY SERVER
