"Left 4 Dead will use the new matchmaking system we've been working on.

The new matchmaking system replaces the traditional server browser. By running a public dedicated server your server will be added to a list of servers available for clients to use when playing. Games are started from a Game Lobby by clients, who are then connected to a dedicated server when they start the game. When they're done, your server is added back to the list of available servers. Clients will be able to "Quick Match", "Play Online", and "Play With Friends" when they want to play a game.

You will still have access to the traditional Message of the Day for your server. For Left 4 Dead, we've added a banner ad you can create that will be displayed to clients when they're playing on your server. There is also a ranking system to show the popularity of your server.

This is the first version of what we've been working on, and we're going to want feedback from all of you once things start turning up tomorrow."

I don't think this will be a huge problem for just playing with people you want, however I can't imagine why they think anyone would pay for a server under this system.  Not to mention how it would make custom maps and server content impossible.  They already need to run dedicated servers for the 360 version, so this seems daft unless they want to be the only person running servers for the PC version as well.

Right click > Join game. Auto assigning servers is fucking retarded, but it can be sort of overcome. Hopefully Valve gets enough hate mail to fix this, ffs this isn't xbox.

Yea...as I said in the other thread, not buying this without complete freedom to choose where I want to play and from an ops perspective, how I can tailor the game to the community that builds around a server.

I agree with this. As much as I trust that Caff, etc. wouldn't go off on one without good reason, I think everyone needs to chill and see how it pans out in practice.

I've only beaten the levels once, and I want more. Can't wait to play through again.

BTW I hate boomers with a bloody passion.

Only problem is finding a good server(like every game the first day it's out), but otherwise, I really don't mind the lobby. I find it fun and enjoyable to get in with a bunch of people.  I hope they add an option for people with lag though.

As big as the problems finding a game are I must say the gameplay itself is just awesome. I don't regret buying it early one bit  ;D
