Mechwarrior: Living Legends - KorJax - 12-29-2008 Because I like to post about things I'm involved with... http://www.mechlivinglegends.net BAM! Anyone remember the old classic Mechwarrior games (based off the old battletech franchise)? How bad-ass it was, how it fused war sim into futuristic Battlemech combat? Remember how Microsoft basically abandoned the franchise after Mechwarrior 4 back in 2001-02? Well the folks over at Mechwarrior Living Legends sure did. And now we are making a full-blown total conversion mod for Crysis (and Warhead too... eventually). ------------------------------
What is MechWarrior: Living Legends? ------------------------------ MWLL is best described as part FPS, part simulator. The game takes place in the Battletech universe. It wasn't easy for the two lead developers to get rights from Microsoft to use this, but they have now acquired a full non-commercial liscense to fully develop the MechWarrior/Battletech I.P. into the first MW game made since 2001-02 (well, mod for Crysis). The game features giant robotic war machines known as Battlemechs, and depicts the conflicts so famously portrayed in past Battletech games and novels between the Inner Sphere and the Clans. Controlling the mech's requires a lot of skill and knowledge to truely master their abilities. This is where the Simulator part comes in because you have to have good knowledge of various functions of the Mech's and vehicles such as heat level systems, weapon+tonnage balance, and mastery of the Mech's aiming to truly be able to wield it's power. However, for the first time in MechWarrior history the player will be able to fight alongside the Mech's in a combined arms battle. You can be a battlesuited solider on the ground to capture objectives, be inside a tank, fly VTOL aircraft, or even fly aerospace aircraft. The focus is on the vehicles, so expect the vehicle combat to be very in-depth and simulator-like. On the other hand battlesuits play out much like an FPS game. Battlesuits are very strong in their own rights... not because they deal a lot of damage, but because they have a small radar footprint, are hard to detect, and can dole out constant damage over a long period of time if you can't deal with them soon enough. There are two game modes in MWLL: Trials of Annihilation (ToA), and Solaris Arena (SA) ToA is a combined arms battle to take control and destroy the enemy's HQ (you must first capture the enemy outpost in order to do this), while SA is a team-based deathmatch that involves only the land-based units. We also have been experimenting lately with a new SA-inspired mini-game mode called Goliath. Basically, it's exactly like Solaris Arena, except no mech-hangers and there are only pre-placed mechs/vehicles on very small maps. In effect this means it's an all-out Battlesuit-versus-mech brawl, with large explosions and epic scale. ------------------------
Fuck that, gimmie some screenshots! ------------------------ A couple of examples of the maps themselves:

Screw that! Gimmie some video's dammit! ----------------------------- -The first in-game video of the Puma (Adder) in motion! Please note that everything you see is in an alpha state: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja1M0fUzxF4 -A very in-depth video detailing how the brand-new Modular Weapons Systems (a first in MechWarrior games implemented in this way) works, to create truly limitless varieties of mechs+vehicles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRvqRHszJho -An audio-teaser, featureing the music of the mod and some cheesy voicework: http://www.3dece.com/kami/audio/MWLL_AdvAudioteaser_2008.mp3 ----------------------- See http://www.mechlivinglegends.net First release version coming TBA Feel free to ask me any questions you guys have about the mod, I'm only a peon level designer but I'll try to answer them within reason. Re: Mechwarrior: Living Legends - CaffeinePowered - 12-29-2008 I posted a thread about this, cool to know someone's involved in it....now my question is.... CAN I GET IN THE BETA?!?!? Please? ;D I will love you long time, seriously, Ive played mechwarrior since 2 on the PC and have a bunch of the games (mech 2, mech 2 ghostbear, mech 2 mercs, mech 3, and mech 4). I've been waiting to pick up a copy of crysis solely for this game. Re: Mechwarrior: Living Legends - Versus - 12-29-2008 :o looks cool. I think I'd pick up a copy of Crysis for this, too. Re: Mechwarrior: Living Legends - ainmosni - 12-29-2008 Wow, a _good_ use of the crysis engine... Looks fucking awesome... A lot nicer than generic jungle shooter Re: Mechwarrior: Living Legends - Dave - 12-29-2008 i want in. Re: Mechwarrior: Living Legends - KorJax - 12-29-2008 Closed beta was delayed to a TBA status, although I'll give you an insider tip... the delay of the public beta release should be april 2009 at the most. Closed beta will probably happen before then, but those invitations will most likely go out to the active and dedicated forum members over at MWLL's website, I don't really control who gets in and who doesn't  Though we desperately need some good animators, both for Flash and 3D, so if you are good with that apply in the forums and you can get to "play" MWLL even earlier  ;D Re: Mechwarrior: Living Legends - CaffeinePowered - 12-29-2008 (12-29-2008, 01:51 PM)KorJax link Wrote: Closed beta will probably happen before then, but those invitations will most likely go out to the active and dedicated forum members over at MWLL's website, I don't really control who gets in and who doesn't  Bogus I never get into any betas, ever I managed to "sneak" into Planetside, Star Wars Galaxies, and Pirates of the Burning sea because someone else gave me beta keys Re: Mechwarrior: Living Legends - fyre - 12-29-2008 (12-29-2008, 01:43 PM)Eschatos link Wrote:

Re: Mechwarrior: Living Legends - Greatbacon - 12-29-2008 (12-29-2008, 02:04 PM)fyre link Wrote:

Re: Mechwarrior: Living Legends - ToiletDuck - 12-29-2008 (12-29-2008, 01:38 PM)ALL OF BRBUNINSTALLING link Wrote: :o looks cool. I have somewhere in my possession: BattleTech 4th Edition rule set and about 30 miniatures A demo disc with Mech Warrior for PC (I wasn't able to locate a released copy), Mech Warrior 2 (both the DOS release and the 3Dfx release), MW2: Ghost Bear Legacy (still my favorite), MW2: Mercenaries Mech Warrior for Sega Mech Commander Mech Assault Three retail VHS tapes of the Battle Tech cartoon (and the complete series ripped) Toys of the Bushwacker, Axeman, etc (from the show). The sound tracks from the MW2 games are still very most awesome.
