Actually I like the, the mechanics, the game play, everything in the actual GAME is solid and fun, from a server operator perspective its a massive cluster fuck.


1) No browser unless you go digging
2) Little incentive to run your own server
3) No ability to make a lobby the select a server (this would be MUCH better), make lobby of 4 - 8, then select server off browser

All of this can lead to stunted communities and low amounts of custom content. Map makers need the communities and the servers to host their content, if all of the community servers are locked so those that own it don't end up with people in it that they don't know then you end up with only Valve's dedicated servers.

If valve only runs dedicated servers, your only hope for getting players to play your custom maps/mods is to get valve to publish and approve them, which has happened to a total of 3 TF2 maps, (Steel, Turbine, and Fastlane (LAWL Commissioned by valve)).

The HLDS continues to be a big arguement which basically boils down to 'bawww I want vanilla only' and 'bawww I want to have control over what goes on in my server'


You want to fix 50% of the problems here's what you do, when you make a 4 player lobby you set everything, then it shows you a list of servers you can join, then you pick a server and it will go back to the lobby screen and show ping for all 4 players. They then vote y/n if they want to use that server and then if its a majority yes, they start playing.

Its like the best of both worlds, you have random lobbies, but it lets you pick the server that best suits the kind of game you want to play (custom or vanilla).


As I said, game/gameplay is fucking tight and I have but a few minor nitpicks about it, but the way valve has gone about this is simply atrocious and not like them at all.
