GCF extraction... denied? - Fail Medic - 11-20-2008 Well, okay. Saw the Demo was still hanging around, knew it had "expired" from someone saying so on here, tried it, didn't run, so fuck it! Remove local content, please! Then I wanted to extract some sounds for Windows events and kicks. I wanted the horn cues (hated foe!), and I wanted the Tank theme. So I launch GCFScape and head for L4D's .gcf files. Error writing C:\DOCUME~1\Fail\LOCALS~1\Temp\Taank.wav (Error: NCF files are indexes and do not contain any file data.) If it's an index, it must be pointing to locations in the VPK files in \SteamApps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead, and I can't figure out what VPK files are. So, unlike Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead ain't keeping shit in a GCF file. Goddammit, Valve. I search Google for the error and I find a Facepunch Studios response to it: http://forums.facepunchstudios.com/showthread.php?t=640563 , which says, "People are getting the files from their steam/steamapps/common/left4deaddemo folder." And I just deleted mine. SON OF A-- Dunno if this would fall under Token NOT's jurisdiction, but I don't suppose someone could see if there are easily identifiable sounds in their not-yet-deleted L4D demo folder and host what I was after, could they? Re: GCF extraction... denied? - copulatingduck - 11-20-2008 Working on it Re: GCF extraction... denied? - copulatingduck - 11-20-2008 Pssst Will probably pull in the morning, lemme know when you've downloaded it pl0x Re: GCF extraction... denied? - Fail Medic - 11-20-2008 (11-20-2008, 02:59 AM)CopulatingDuck link Wrote: Pssst Thank you, Duck! Downloaded! You have my +1s and gratitude. Re: GCF extraction... denied? - Mission Difficult - 11-20-2008 If you own the game, all the sound files are in the directory steam/steamapps/common/left 4 dead/left4dead/sound No need for GCFscape Re: GCF extraction... denied? - Fail Medic - 11-20-2008 (11-20-2008, 06:21 PM)Mission Difficult link Wrote: If you own the game, all the sound files are in the directory steam/steamapps/common/left 4 dead/left4dead/sound Sigh. Thanks, MD. I have ridiculous tunnel vision. Sorry for your effort, Duck. |
