*fixed* General CONvergence Thread June 30th-July 3rd :P - [fr31ns]Karrde - 06-05-2011 http://twitpic.com/57kd20 Progress so far on goggles.  The top hat I bought will be part of it, along with a vest I'm making.  Gonna cheat and buy some pants and a shirt since there's no way I'll have it all done by CONvergence. Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - CaffeinePowered - 06-05-2011 Lookin nice....I still need to start on the vault suit...its all pinned up and ready to go though.... Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - at0m - 06-05-2011 I seriously read this as 'Karth Does Steam Punk' and my first thoughts were 'Man, I'd rather see Karth's sister than Karth in steam punk...'. True story. Cool goggles, though. Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - kaese - 06-05-2011 Did you make the lens yourself? If so, how do? For the Blighted Beak, I was thinking about using some thin, flexible clear plastic and try to figure out the grey tinting somehow. For tinting go to any automotive store and get window tint (comes in large rolls), three layers will ensure that you can see out but no one can see your eyes Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - HeK - 06-06-2011 (06-06-2011, 06:36 AM)Caffeine link Wrote: [quote author=Käse link=topic=5684.msg209069#msg209069 date=1307333539] For tinting go to any automotive store and get window tint (comes in large rolls), three layers will ensure that you can see out but no one can see your eyes [/quote] Or the auto section at walmart. Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - [fr31ns]Karrde - 06-06-2011 Nah, I scaveneged the lenses from an old magnifiying glass. Like caff said, the automotive tinting is probably the best route. If you need a lens or some kind of clear thing to mount it on, you could always find a piece of clear, hard plastic that's larger than what you're needing and cutting it to shape. Don't know if you guys have thrift stores like axman where you live, but they're great resources for random stuff. Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - kaese - 06-06-2011 Do window tints come in gray? I'll use black tint as a last resort, but I have never seen windows with gray tinting so I figured that they don't exist? (I can imagine them looking unattractive on cars, so maybe that's why I never see them...) I think I am leaning towards using plastic instead of glass since the chances of glass breaking and flying into my eyes are higher than plastic shattering. BUT, would the tinting work with plastic as well as it does with glass? VIELEN DANK Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - HeK - 06-06-2011 (06-06-2011, 04:50 PM)Käse link Wrote: Do window tints come in gray? (I can imagine them looking unattractive on cars, so maybe that's why I never see them...) My car is tinted with grey tint. It's 55% front, 35% rear. Still looks dark. Then again, what is grey but less dark black? I've worked with plastics a lot in the past, you will have no problem with tint on acrylic or polycarbonate like Lucite or Lexan. You'll need to use a hairdryer to get the tint to form to any complex shapes. Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - [fr31ns]Karrde - 06-06-2011 Updates! http://twitpic.com/582esm http://twitpic.com/582ev9 Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - [fr31ns]Karrde - 06-06-2011 Ok, nearly done. Just need to get the ocular to stay on. Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - at0m - 06-07-2011 Quote:Karrde link=topic=5684.msg209222#msg209222 date=1307413786]Is that mostly leather & pop rivets? Just wondering on construction materials. Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - [fr31ns]Karrde - 06-07-2011 I built it over a basic welding mask I got off amazon (pulled out the lenses frame, removed the lenses, etc and painted). Yes it's leather which I riveted to the flexible plastic shield on the mask. I also cut a piece to fit over the front of the mask. Also, not pop rivets but leather working rivets. You can find them at any leather work store or probably craft store. Also need basic leather working tools. I get mine from the local Tandy but you can order online: http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/ . Then it's just careful, general prop work. Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - [fr31ns]Karrde - 06-08-2011 Ocular is glued in (Heavy Duty Liquid Nails). Once it cures it should be good to go. Unless it breaks. Then it'll be time to whip out the bolts. Now though, vest work starts tomorrow. Hopefully I can finish that in like 48 hours, though work and PS Saturdays will undoubtedly get in the way. Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - CaffeinePowered - 06-13-2011 For Convergence....it begins.... Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - [fr31ns]Karrde - 06-17-2011 Shipping crate facade for covering storage tote for VHU room party is done. Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - [fr31ns]Karrde - 06-17-2011 Watch and Chain complete. Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - CaffeinePowered - 06-18-2011 Was the watch radioactive? Re: Karrde Does Steam Punk - [fr31ns]Karrde - 06-18-2011 I didn't take it apart so it's not an issue. |
