I was really on a roll for a while there, and I want to get back into it. While I like lower-impact exercising, Iâve been working on starting a running routine. Running is difficult for me. Itâs not so bad on a treadmill, but trying to focus on an outside-route in this humidity level has been really tough. The program is the link above. Basically, in the past I have started off trying to push through 1-2 miles in my first workout and gotten terrible, terrible shin splints and âstitchâ in my side. So Iâm trying to ease into it this time around with a less intense program. If anybody else wants to try and do it with me, itâs a great program to get moving and outside. Week 1 Workout 1-Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Workout 2-Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Workout 3- Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes That is the first week. Pretty low-impact, I havenât been sore at all after the workout, though definitely pretty sweaty. I should be back in the gym in the next week or so as well. Here's to hoping I can stay on track Re: Workout tips/advice? - CaffeinePowered - 06-22-2010 (06-22-2010, 08:34 AM)Trick link Wrote: While I like lower-impact exercising, Iâve been working on starting a running routine. Have you ever considered using an elliptical for indoors and a bike for outdoors? I have incredibly flat feet and using an elliptical makes things much easier. A bike can get you the same kind of workout without the high impact that running has. Right now I am planning on signing up for my company 5k in October, and I really need the experience of running outside to prepare for it. Re: Workout tips/advice? - copulatingduck - 06-23-2010 ellipticals and stairmasters can be great, but if you're doing a 5k you're absolutely right in practicing on a track. You could use them for intervals before or after a run though Re: Workout tips/advice? - Tricks - 06-23-2010 (06-23-2010, 12:40 PM)Duck link Wrote: ellipticals and stairmasters can be great, but if you're doing a 5k you're absolutely right in practicing on a track. You could use them for intervals before or after a run though I can't do a track; I get so bored. Right now I am running to the end of my street and back (about a mile each way) alternating between walking and running. I'm doing about 10 minutes a mile, which isn't great, but much better then just sitting on my couch and walking Sportscenter. When I have a better pace (more run then jog) it feels like some organ in my right side is going to tear out of my side. I have been jogging for about two weeks now, and my last run was actually a little less painful then before. Does it just get better after a point?
