2nded, Although it's ultimately up to Duck, I would definitely be for this as I sort of liked it the way it was.

It's been that way for a while now (dustbowl/goldrush/warpath/mach4), Caff changed it idk, close to a week ago? I was thinking stocks-only would be the way to go for school-time, but picking which stock maps it runs is a different story.

Re: Rotation Shake Up (Again) - Neonie - 09-07-2008

I would like to see #2 go back to what it was when I came back to TF2 and I would actually start playing on it again. A nice Dustbowl/Warpath/Granary Server that still has crits. Now I just sort of see it as gimped  Sad

I actually filled server #2 every morning before that whole crit thing.

Re: Rotation Shake Up (Again) - Master Shake - 09-07-2008

You could just take "No Crits" off of the server name and I bet people wouldn't even notice.  After a while they might, but by that point they wont care.

Yeah, I'm not interested in playing on a server that doesn't have crits.

Myself too, I hate the no crits and arena.

The only thing that makes me seed it is the moral obligation to because I have admin.

Re: Rotation Shake Up (Again) - Budr - 09-08-2008

Having played the last couple of weeks mostly on #2 and a no crits Arena server, I'm now firmly in the anti-crits camp. Switching back feels like a different game, based much less on skill and is an extremely frustrating experience. Whatever sense of satisfaction might be achieved from a critical hit kill is ill-gotten in its cheapness and hugely outranked by the annoyance every time the situation is reversed.

Re: Rotation Shake Up (Again) - copulatingduck - 09-08-2008

I'm just gonna weigh in before this gets carried on for much longer. There is no way that #2 is going back to a crits server. There are lots of members of the community that enjoy nocrits (myself included) and the community is large enough that I don't see why we can't have it both ways. I'm open to suggestions as to what the rotation should be, or other ideas on how to fill the server, but being that everyone is back in school, it's seemed like most servers are having a bit of a harder time filling.

Again, there's no way #2 will go back to nocrits as long as there are people who support nocrits. To be honest, I would sooner just pull the server down and use it for myself than to let it go crits again. And before you get all hot and bothered about this statement, take 2 seconds and think about this: #2, #3, and the mod server are all provided FREE OF CHARGE by members of the community. While criticism of how the servers are run is certainly acceptable, realize than an excess of criticism does get old for those of us who are just trying to give something back to the community, and especially when that something requires a lot of work/upkeep to maintain.

Speaking of which, I suggest everyone show IdiotWithGuns some love over at UMLan and their forums. The mod server recently took a big hit and it cost $300 (iirc) in parts to get it back up and running again. He's shown an extraordinary amount of dedication and support for the community, and I think we owe it to him to show our thanks. Personally, if it was me I would've just said "sorry, no more server, i has no monies" a long time ago.  :-\

And if it sounds like I'm trying to sell you on supporting IWG and generally showing him some love, I am - and with good reason too  :-X

i wish people would stop fucking doing that

Re: Rotation Shake Up (Again) - Master Shake - 09-08-2008

I like nocrits. I vote for warpath2, dustbowl, goldrush and mach4 like it was before.  In the end it's up to you though, and I know you hate that rotation.

Nocrits is indeed fun.

Just get rid of arena, it makes me want to kill myself.

Re: Rotation Shake Up (Again) - KarthXLR - 09-08-2008

Nocrits is good on some maps, while not on others.

for example, I love crits on large maps like badwater and goldrush.

Payload maps have a crapload of choke points that a burst of crits can remove if used correctly, while on maps that are small, (such as mach4 or turbine) I find crits to be something that cramps the gameplay style.

But either way, crits or not, better than getting owned by grenades.

Deliberate crits? The first rule of random crits is there is no correct usage, just luck. Any situational hits are retained on a no crits server.

Re: Rotation Shake Up (Again) - Vandamguy - 09-09-2008

the last 6 pages of posts are useless

the rotation on server one sucks dirty cock

17 maps 1 stock , no wonder its empty all the time.

used to be 1 stock 1 custom 1 stock 1 custom to keep people coming in for stock then possibly staying for custom. the average player doesn't deliberately join custom maps. less new people joining the server equates to less new people joining the forums equates to the community withering out.

yeah caff, i know you run customs because everyone is bored of stock maps. but this is overkill. i'd rather play a full server of 2fort than a 3v3 cp_roswell

Re: Rotation Shake Up (Again) - Dave - 09-09-2008

2 reasons 2 is better than 1

1) no crits
2) dustbowl more than once every millenia.

Looks pretty full to me right now, the whole stock-custom-stock usually went to full-near empty-full. While you haven't been around recently, but I almost always have HLSW open in the background, when people actually seed customs then the server will stay full. Stock kiddies wont download customs, ever. If you get people that are fans of stock maps in while seeding you can throw anything at them and they'll download it happily.

sure its full now, but lookin at this , we can see that on average , it ain't as full as it used to be
our server rank used to be in the 84th percentile as far as i can remember, now its down to 80.

there is a problem with server population, whether or not you want to do something about it is another thread
