If you're running on a laptop, you probably want to force the game to run in directx8 as well if it isn't already. That might heelp out a lot too. To do it, right click TF2 in your games list, set launch options, and put in
Code:
-dxlevel 81

Run the game once, then close it, remove the line from your launch options, and that should set it to run in directx8. That might help you out a lot too. Geez, what kind of framerate do you get anyways?

Usually around 10-15 on Medium settings. Playable, but a bit rough when there's a lot of stuff going on at once. With the dual-core thing going on, now I get at least 20-25fps.

Hmm... Technically, TF2 crashes when I attempt to quit the game. Maybe I should try this to see what happens. :V
I'm getting the stutter effect too. Really disorienting. Also, models flash in and out. Haven't tried it on an active server though.
it happens the same to me, everytime i close TF2 a message of hl2.exe crashing appears
[/quote]

umm..I have to 3rd that. That happens to me too. I didn't think it was a big deal since it didn't visibly effect the game, but maybe it does? Should I reinstall TF2?

[/quote]I...don't know if that pic is related. Anyways, it does go down to 10fps if there's a TON of stuff going on, but it's much better with DirectX 8. 1024x768 and high settings.

Didn't seem worth starting a new topic over (I know, I'm no Grey) but I thought I would post this since a lot of people apparently don't know about it. You can run  TF2 windowed with the border removed, and scaled to fit your screen. What does this do? It lets you alt-tab without worry of crashing or even hindering your game. You can set it in your launch options. My line looks like this:

Quote:-novid -sw -w 1280 -h 800 -noborder

I don't remember what sw does, but I'm pretty sure that's important. novid removes the stupid video at the start with that guy with the valve cumming out his neck, and 1280x800 is my resolution.

Oh, that's the line from my laptop. I had already turned off my desktop when I made this post, so I copy-pasted it from my laptop's launch options. I have a 19" monitor for my desktop.

Does it alter your performance in any way?  If not I will add this fo sho!

Oh yea, it does make your system work harder, but I don't think it's a huge difference in performance.
