Well, after Roddick dropped off yesterday, the only story that is left in Wimbledon is a possible Nadal/Federer rematch (first time since 2008, since in 2009 Nadal’s knee was injured) and naturally the William’s sisters probably having another show-down at the finish.

With all of the almost-upsets this year (Federer’s first round, etc) I was hoping for a drastically different field for the quarter and semi finals. When you have players fighting for multiple grass titles instead of first time, it does lose a lot of the watchability (at least for me).

World Cup should be cool to follow today; really focusing on Spain/Portugal. I might sneak downstairs to the deli in our lobby and try to watch some of the game, but I will probably just tab in and out of ESPN’s little soccer tracker during the game.

For me, the real hype is LeBron right now. I know a lot of people don’t like Pro Basketball because of the really whiney players, but I think this is a really amazing moment for the NBA that most sports-inclined people know about. Free-agency starts for LeBron on July 1st, and I presume Sports Center will be more or less nothing but Lebron rumors (as if it wasn’t already).

Did anybody watch the NBA draft? It sounds like Black Aspen watched the NHL draft the night after, any surprises there?

Dtrain, you are in Omaha and a Cubs fan…making it out to the College World Series at all? I thought about going over there, but I don’t follow College Baseball enough to really know the players/teams/etc.

nah, I don't really follow college baseball. My Brother in law went to a couple of the games. He's a big TCU/Fullerton fan.

See! This is what I'm talking about. This is how you compete for Lebron:

Quote:Jun 29, 2010 - In order to create more salary-cap space for the free-agent spending spree that's about to start, the Nets have traded forward Yi Jianlian to the Wizards for swingman Quinton Ross, according to multiple reports. NetsDaily has more on the salary-cap implications of the deal here:

The move will give them a bit more than $30 million in space and put them back in second place among teams seeking top free agents behind the Knicks. The Nets would need $33 million to sign two max free agents.

In return, the two report the Nets will receive journeyman small forward Quinton Ross. Initially, it was reported the Nets might be wind up with one of the Wizards' draft picks. [Dave] D'Alessandro reports that the deal will be announced this afternoon. Ross will be paid $1.14 million, $2.91 million less than Yi's $4.05 million.

Re: The Sports Thread - Vlambo - 06-29-2010

I was reading today that LeBron, Bosh and Wade all met up to discuss their futures. Possible solution was them all going to Miami, or Chicago. It sounds like they just wanna win. Poor Knicks, they'll never get all 3

Also, protip: making fun of the Men's US Soccer 2010 World Cup squad when Canada couldn't even qualify is the same sort of short-sighted, childish gibing that I would expect from someone who - as recently as just a few short months ago - would take showers immediately after toking up because he was afraid his mommy would catch him. Grow up plz. Same to you chief
i really dont think canada gives a shit about soccer because they just cheer for their team (whatever their nationality is) because we have multicultural flowing out of our ears and since almost everyone immigrates here that if we do have good soccer players they just go back to their country of birth

i would say u mad, but im gonna stop it anyway

what team has a fucking canadian allstar.  just shut the fuck up.
[/quote]England used to have a Canadian starter.

He was a pretty good player in the Premier League too.

At that exact moment, I knew I was better than every leaf fan in the world. And that I saw my team win a cup during my lifetime (Eat it you Post 67ers)

I'm gonna miss Neids so much. With him gone, Pronger gone, and Beach in fucking Toronto, our blueline is in ruins.

Too bad Sakic wasn't playing. Woulda been 2002 all over again.

Re: The Sports Thread - Tricks - 06-29-2010

Paul Pierce is opting out of his contract. Now, there is still a chance for him to come back (for more money).

BUT. If there was any way he was planning on joined LeBron's free class......it probably means Doc Rivers is done. This probably means Ray Allen is out too.

Honestly? I can't see him going anywhere else. Drafted out of high school right to the Celtics (ironically a huge Lakers fan all his life).

Sportscenter is frothing over it, but I don't see him leaving. His jersey is getting retired...it has to.

That'd be me (Leafs fan).  Better how exactly?  A better fan?  A better person?  Needs more information.

Knowing that I'd seen my team not choke in the playoffs. Better now that I don't have to listen to the constant mocks of "how many Cups have they won?" and "Who cheers for a team based after a movie?". Wanna know why? Cause we outplayed everyone else and got that cup, when there was more than 6 teams in the league.

Re: The Sports Thread - Tricks - 06-30-2010

Federer is knocked out....damn  :o

Re: The Sports Thread - Hobospartan - 06-30-2010

Amazing, amazing article. TL;DR to the max, but really, really good if you are a Bill Simmons fan (or a fan of the USA).

Yeah, I know what you mean. I remember seeing a game from 2K that was MLB Front Office, where all you did was just manage a roster, recruit, and scout….but you never actually played Baseball. People are looking for more and more realism in games, as they cater more and more to the “true fans”. I think because of that they make a lot of games somewhat inaccessible.

This is my kind of sports game:

2K sports has totally destroyed MLB video games. The last "good" MLB game was ESPN 2K5.

The whole "have to move your stick in specific motions to throw a pitch" bullshit isn't fun and needlessly complicated.

Worst buyer's remorse ever buying 2k10 baseball.

I've heard that "The Show" is much better for the PS3....but I don't own one, so I have no idea.

I guess I do need a blue-ray player.... Sad
