Summer of '08 one of my friends was like "hey this server is pretty cool let's play on it", so I did. I thought it was a really fun server to play on, and a while later I joined the forums.
A little after that, someone (I think honest) said that they always read Totla as Tortilla, so I changed it as a joke and never changed it back.

Yeah, added luca to my friends list after making a post about tf2 on another forum. He joined WTF, and one night I was looking for more gay furry porn to spray on the walls of random servers and make people rage, when luca kept spamming me to help him seed the dtoid server. I eventually caved and joined, and after getting a not so warm welcome from some of the members, and the promise from Caff that he would indeed give me admin and anyone in WTF would also get it, I thought it was a hell of a place to spam my porn. From there, I was able to piss a lot of douchbags off from dtoid with my gayness of furry porn and therefore, loads of drama and the formation of brbu. Or something like that. Blame luca.

My story is similar to Squish's.
I started playing TF2 since it came out.
At that time, I was playing with friends, team stacking and (seriously) winning games by ourselves.
One of my friends then read a complaint on some forum about us team stacking on one of their servers. We then decided to wear the [Team Stackers] tag.
So I was (obviously) the best player in the gang, and I also believe I was among the very first players to go battle medic in this game.
That said, my friends and I liked to play this game. A lot.
We also really enjoyed going on 2Fort servers and turtling next to the intel. We could get 4 sentries in there, was awesome. Some of my friends, however, lack some... respect. While we were idling next to our sentries, they decided to take their fun to another level...
The result: read the posts... I wasn't guilty, but I was wearing the same tag.
I am still surprised we didn't land on the then-Destructoid server, from which we would obviously have gotten banned.
I must have joined before, but I really remember my first time as when achievement whoring was the thing to do. I joined the server to get my medic weapons. I liked it, for some reason... I added the server to my favorites and eventually got to join this forum.
Oh, the irony, I can't believe I was whoring for my achievements, when I believe that idling is evil.
And such irony it is, that I have myself banned some people for the same reasons my friends got me banned

I'm behind the facade of objective truth.
I think how people found B.R-B:U is less interesting than why people stayed. Why did I stay? I'm not sure, but it has to do with people who are naturally funny, sincere, and helpful all at the same time: like Aerox and Mission Difficult and Fail and Dave and other people who don't try too hard.

benito your story is my favorite!mostly bc I did the same in CS - was perma banned for "hacking" and team stacking from at least 5 servers a night... It was fun, but I would totally ban people for doing what we did back then too, so... we all grow up I guess - besides, unless its one of your haunts, being banned from a server means both parties win. The server doesnt have to put up with you, and you feel gratified that you pushed people to their limits.

i made goofy tf2 vids and some brbu members invited me here... i think it was primarily Joel
why do i stay? to see how simple it is to annoy and piss off human beings... to see the differences of how people act when they are anonymous as opposed to standing in front of you... to say and do things for the pure amusement of the reaction...and to see how long i can keep an "argument" going before the other party realizes that not only am I just collecting material but I have NO emotional stake in their personal opinions.
and because there are some really great people here who have a sense of humor
