I think Dave is right, here. I don't want to open CivIV and log to the server to make 1 single damn move and close the game... We should try and get a game going when everyone's there.

its not really my place to say anything since i didnt participate in the last round of Civ, but from what i remember of it, it sucked quite badly

im not quite sure on the details of this pitboss thing , but if we could set it for something awsumz like 5 minute turns (for a quick match), then yes i would agree that the problem is solved

Yeah, we need to plan far in advance though if were doing 5 minute turns (which we should do) so we can clear our schedules for that day.

While a lot of people have mentioned they'd prefer not play vanilla here's the issue:
I only own vanilla and this is the case for quite a few others. For the maximum amount of people be able to play, vanilla is the best option. Ainmosni has said he doesn't want to play if it's vanilla, TBH, it sounds like he doesn't want to play at all if that's the case :p which bothers me a bit, still, I got a working pitboss for steam and non-steam, so we can get things going right soon.

And the 24 hour move thing, it's up to 24 hours to make your move or else you will be skipped.I can set it so all can make moves at once.

The thing is, I do want to play but not immediately (waaay too much on my plate to play any games atm) And my problems with vanilla are that civ IV became such a better game after BTS... So many things were added and stuff solved that annoyed the fuck out of me in the vanilla version. I understand the 'inclusive' idea but it's just very hard to go back once used to BTS...

I has an idea.  How about those of us who have Beyond the Sword start up a pbem game?  It can go nice and slow but still be fun since we get espionage and giant mechs.

I can imagine it, and that's why I think I'd enjoy it, i barely have enough time to test the mods I'm on a team for, let alone game in general, only having to take 1 turn in a 24 hour period is actually OPTIMAL situation for me, if there is a live game to be played, I will not be able to partake. Anyway, I can set up more than one pitboss server, also, the other problem with going to expansions is, I can only set up a pitboss on an installation that i have access to...I don't have BOTS so I actually don't have the ability to set up a pitboss for BOTS Sad (I've been toying around with this more and more and 2k really fucked up the server side of this stuff, we'd honestly be better off pooling together our collective resources to build our own server system acceptant to the CIV protocol stuff, it'd actually be EASIER...)

How is Civ 4 compared to Civ 3? What makes it that much different gameplay wise.

[/quote]The city management system is easier to handle too.  Overall it's still pretty much the same gameplay, but there are enough little things throughout the game that were added and adjusted that just make it a much easier to manage and a more enjoyable experience than Civ 3.

Yeah, I remember my cities being in civil disorder and not doing shit in Civ3, which doesn't happen in Civ4.

Well in Civ 3 you took SEVERE penalties for corruption and shit the further away from your capitol you were.  I don't think that even exists in Civ IV.
