And that's the wonder of the PC. You always have the option of using a controller if it works better ;O. Re: Mirror's Edge - Tragic Hero - 11-03-2008 I don't know about the whole controller thing. From playing games like CS you learn how to inherit the "twitch" ability in order to be nimble with a keyboard and mouse. Maybe you are right since I haven't played the demo but I don't see how a controller can trump a Keyboard/Mouse unless you are playing a fighting game, racing game, or a sports game. Re: Mirror's Edge - Surf314 - 11-03-2008 It's sort of a racing platformer. Shame it's the same as what I played at PAX, but the addition of a trainer was nice. ![]() Re: Mirror's Edge - Neonie - 11-04-2008 No you can't see her boobs if you look down, only her feet :c Re: Mirror's Edge - ScottyGrayskull - 11-04-2008 (11-04-2008, 11:54 AM)Neonie link Wrote: No you can't see her boobs if you look down, only her feet :c Well, you can see some leg as well. ![]() Re: Mirror's Edge - copulatingduck - 11-04-2008 (11-04-2008, 12:28 PM)ScottyGrayskull link Wrote:
Well, you can see some leg as well. ![]()
you really are deprived up there in canuckville aren't you?
im always trying to take perv to a new level. mans got to have hobbies Re: Mirror's Edge - ScottyGrayskull - 11-12-2008 So, now that the console versions are out and I assume at least a few people other than me has had a chance to play it (I see Neonie is playing it right now), what do you all think? I'll be brief, but it's pretty much what I expected. Very much along the lines of a Prince of Persia or Tomb Raider game. The trial and error to find a better path (or any path sometimes) can be very frustrating, but getting that sweet, sweet run through a level (like I'm sure we can all do with the demo by now) is so satisfying. ^_^ However, forcing people to play through the game before unlocking hard mode is LAME. I'll hopefully have it done or pretty much done by the end of the weekend, where I'll say more. There are the time trial options, but I'm going through the main game before I look into those. Re: Mirror's Edge - Squishy3 - 11-14-2008 oh god it is so amazing aside from this one part where I clip through a swing pole no matter what I do > ![]() Re: Mirror's Edge - Surf314 - 11-23-2008 Beat it in like a day. It seems to be in the same vein as mega man and donkey kong. It's pretty much an old school controller throwing type thing. I mean the main game is really only just a context for the real game which is the races and leaderboards and bragging rights. I hate the combat though. It was extremely annoying and contrary to what the game is. I wish there was another way of giving you the feel of being in a hurry. Also it is definitely trying to take a page from HL2's book as far as method of storytelling and immersion. It absolutely nails the immersion by giving you a feel for your "body" in game but the storytelling is a bit clunky. It's not really bad its just there could have been so much more. It really needed the HL2 and Bioshock ambient storytelling. Everything is too clean I wanted to see some dirt under some feel that the city is broken inside and just has a layer of polish over it. I really wanted exactly what portal had. I wanted some hidden graffiti some signs of rebellion. Also I would have absolutely killed for a rewind ala Prince of Persia. God there was some frustrating moments in there. Overall its a must play for those are into video games but not for people that just enjoy playing video games. It wasn't enjoyable or really fun, although it had its fun moments. It was satisfying and interesting. It gave you that joy of accomplishment you get when beating a level in Mega Man. It made you feel like you are witnessing something new in video games. But it definitely was not a blast to play or something you feel like you are really enjoying yourself. Its hard work. Also if you are going to pick it up I'd recommend easy. It may sound lame but there is a good reason for it. I had a friend tell me to do easy and I didn't for half the game until I got fed up. Basically everything is the same no matter what difficulty except the combat gets less and less forgiving. But the combat is by far the worst part of the game. So playing easy actually makes the game more enjoyable. The quick time disarms are absolutely retarded on normal. You have to anticipate when the red comes up and its absolutely unforgiving. There were so many times I knew I hit it when the gun turned red but there seems to be some lag. I also tried not to shoot anybody because I felt like killing was counter to the spirit of the story. But out of frustration of the mechanics of beating people up and missing the disarms I just started blasting people to get them to leave me alone. There is no penalty for doing this which annoyed me. I felt that I should have been villianized in some way. It was useless because in the end one of the "good guys" starts capping people himself so it is useless not to kill. The game does the parkour and the racing wonderfully but all the other mechanics I felt like they were a major disappointment. They had enough potential to really make you to want them to succeed but they really don't. The disarms are like I said way too difficult and clunky. The combat had promise but was very shallow. And the idea of being able to use guns at a cost of speed and mobility seems great. There is initially a lot of motivation to toss away all the guns you get in the disarms. But at the end there are so many bad guys and the combat so clunky that I'd go through sections commando shooting up people and tossing aside weapons to get more, better weapons. This game is a must rent but only a buy if you are interested in the racing aspects. I haven't explored them but I hear they are pretty in depth, with the ability to download other people's leading races to find the paths they took as there are generally many paths to any destination. Plus you get to stack up your scores against others for bragging rights. Re: Mirror's Edge - Surf314 - 11-23-2008 Yea so racing mode is meh. It would be substantially better if they stripped out all the movies and made it so you can restart without loading. You try really hard to get a perfect run and then you slip up and its such a hassle to go through loading and all the cutscenes again. That being said it is a lot more enjoyable doing the races than the main story. I just wish you could get rid of the bad guys too. Seriously, they suck.
