As far as I can tell, the only thing these changes have done is reduce the clusterfuck at chokes between points. Winning and losing based on spam isn't just dumb, it's completely skill-less. I'm glad the author was pro-active about reducing the failmates, the map is a lot more dynamic now. That being said, spam is pretty much why Goldrush and Dustbowl are such crap (and popular) so I guess I can see why some people wouldn't be happy with the changes.

The big question is... have the underwater areas around mid been left relatively intact?

I have a cheevo to get honestly people (Krazy Ivan), and I aim to get it! Wink

I should make an underwater level for it....

Base it on the underwater levels of mario!  Lots of swiftwater.
[/quote]Oh god I forgot all about swiftwater. Whatever happened to aqua? Sad

It sucks.  And you shoulda been on a few nights ago.  Long story short, we had a pyro, a spy and an engineer camping the swift water exit Tongue  Anything that exited was set on fire immediately.  Then sentried or backstabbed.

Re: CP_Freight_Final - [fr31ns]Karrde - 06-05-2009

Hmmmm, looks like I'm getting overruled here.  Since the discussion seems to have ended, can we at least keep the old version on the server for RTV or even for maybe an FNF in the future?  I'd hate to never be able to play freight again.

Re: CP_Freight_Final - Squishy3 - 06-05-2009

You can get past the engie-fest on the last aqua point if the team wants to work together. But nobody ever follows after an uber, because they expect the uber to do everything for them.

Re: CP_Freight_Final - Wakati - 06-05-2009

I agree both should maybe be put on the server but the final should be default on the server list.  I really love the final version, because it makes the  second to last point cap not an automatic win.  Whats the point of a 5 point capture map when you can't retake it and come back.  It was worse than badlands.  I'm sorry it take more effort to play the map, but it makes it more fun.

Re: CP_Freight_Final - Kor - 06-06-2009

I'm with FuckDuck on this one. The new Freight is nearly a harmony of flow, never once did I feel like the map was a steamroll or a turtlefest. I suspect though that those who might like the old map better due to there being more opportunities for cheesedick, although they'll never admit to something like that. Wink

Oh I got an even better underwater map idea!  Do one based on the poseidon adventure!  You know big cruise ship flips and starts filling up with water.  It would be CTF with each flag room being a safe above water zone.  The rest of the map is a mix of mostly underwater corridors and passageways, some big open areas like in the movie too.  lots of health drops in the mostly underwater areas and some swift water mazes at the bottom.  Winning team gets rescued, losing team drowns.

Edit: I wish they would make another The Ship that is successful because this would make an awesome level for that too.

That sounds good, but the pyro would be pretty much useless.

In this case, the changes did not fix the major problem with freight, that being jammed into the final point and having difficulty pushing back.

This is what makes it a good map.

If it was easy to push back, there would never be a winner.
Guess why the game sets respawn times according to how well your team is doing in the match?

Losing a match is usually more fun than having to fight for the 2nd point for the whole duration of the map.

Of course it's a different case if the teams are unbalanced. But with balanced teams, I think it's fun to play on the 3rd point once in a while, and not only on the 2nd point. What better way to do this than to start another round?

Re: CP_Freight_Final - Loqutus - 06-10-2009

Benito is making some good points, but I don't base my opinion of the new version on tactics or battle plans.

I just hate that you have to enter the left door to get into that new area. I hate that stupid room and its stupid windows.

STUPID

Re: CP_Freight_Final - CaffeinePowered - 06-10-2009

I have to reload the old version on the server, but I will at least make it votable on the rtv list

Re: CP_Freight_Final - chronomaster - 06-10-2009

A Freight thread with me not bitching left and right?

Acutally, I haven't played the final version yet, so no comment from me.
