I'm pretty sure I can make it.

Re: TFT - 9/9 - Fail Medic - 09-09-2008

I... I don't think I can make it.  My computer room is currently uninhabitable.

Dave, I"m going to need that suit from the "Ain was stung" thread.

Re: TFT - 9/9 - A. Crow - 09-09-2008

Re: TFT - 9/9 - CaffeinePowered - 09-09-2008

A protip to everyone, ALWAYS download the maps prior to TFT, its quicker for you and easier on the server.

Tonight I saw a bunch of people get dropped, likely due to a 'map can not be downloaded error'. Let me explain why this can happen, when you go to download a map, the server makes an external connection to ScottyG's webserver which hosts the bzips of the maps.

While this is faster than downloading from the server directly, and valve actually DISABLED the ability to download directly from the game server. This secondary method CAN and does time people out. When 20 people didn't download aerospace and the server is trying to shell out 20 copies of a 65 meg zip file, that adds up to a lot of bandwidth suddenly being thrust on the server.

Some people WILL time out, two solutions for this are, we pay for more capacity or YOU download the map prior to TFT/FNF. I think for some people with a slower/laggier connection (ie Geoff (<3)), this happens more frequently.

Sorry for any inconvenience tonight

Re: TFT - 9/9 - Geoff - 09-09-2008

Oh me?  I wasn't timed out.  I had downloaded the maps before remembering past experiences.  Valve decided to take away my games 3 minutes before TFT.

"This game is not available"  Ah, words of wisdom, Valve.

Ah, I thought you got booted for not having the map, my bad

Re: TFT - 9/9 - Versus - 09-09-2008

doctor's appointment took out my spore time, so I had to make up for it during TFT. Tongue

Re: TFT - 9/9 - ScottyGrayskull - 09-09-2008

Also, something I discovered...

When there is a map that is in a bzip, then put into the rar/zip that you download, you need to extract the bzip somewhere first, then extract the map. Just digging down within the Windows archive manager doesn't seem to actually extract the map. :S

Hope that makes sense.

Re: TFT - 9/9 - Wedge - 09-10-2008

OMNOMNOM DOM_Complex was awesome.  Dunno how much was nostalgia, but it was awesome.

Re: TFT - 9/9 - bjlsurfer - 09-10-2008

How was nuke?  I had to leave...

Re: TFT - 9/9 - [fr31ns]Karrde - 09-10-2008

Nuke was a godawful confusing unoptimized pile of feces.  Complex made me cum several times.  Rotation or at least votable.  Aerospace was meh.  Pretty but needs a bit of redesign to be playable.  And we need to make mach votable.

Complex was fun, i vote that Complex should replace Canalzone. Also, Mach2 should be on rotation, or at least votable

Re: TFT - 9/9 - ZargonX - 09-10-2008

Aerospace and Nuke could both use some work, I think.  I'd leave them out for now.

Complex wasn't finished, but it was really fun.  Definitely vote-worthy for the moment, at least.
