Okaaay, so Blizz just said they are delaying SCII because they want to fix Battle.net to make it more like "Xbox Live" (i don't know what they mean with this)

So this just reaffirms my theory that they are planning to
A) Charge a monhtly fee to pplay on Battle.net
B) Add WoW to Battle.net and use the same currency (aka instead of WoW subscriptions you buy Battle.net subscriptions wich allow to play SCII, WoW and Diablo III)

It makes sense to me, mostly because of the decisition of not Including LAN. This way they will prevent people from using Hamachi or programs like Garena so the only way for people to play is through Battle.net

Or maybe they're trying to stop pirating by forcing people to get serial keys and that making people pay a monthly fee to play an RTS online is too dumb of a business plan for anyone except possibly EA to try.
but then you realize blizzard has become a greedy corporation squeezing every dime they can out of the consumer
IIRC, Blizzard stated that they will not make people pay to play on Bnet
also, it's a horrible business plan and absolutely no one will buy it if they do. an idiot can even see that.
and as far as the no lan, who the fuck really cares. you know a crack or workaround is going to be made 2 seconds after release anyway.
This. Also Beep take off the tinfoil hat, Grey's gonna yell at you for copying him. Not all corporations are greedy exploitative fuckwits, and I'm actually behind Blizzard because unlike most game developers they don't just rehash the same trash year by year. WoW's a money churning monolith because Blizzard gives two shits.

If anything assuming they'll make us pay for DIII is a more logical choice but that's still iffy.

Is blizzard actively releasing games or are they just doing a scrooge mcduck and swimming through their WoW profits?

From war 2, to DII, to war3, to wow, their releases have always been slow, tedious, but ultimately rewarding. It doesn't seem like WoW is changing any of that.

I'd rather wait for quality than get a yearly Sonic the Hedgehog game. I can only think of one game series that's ever been good after being churned out quickly and that's God of War.

^ This.

The games Blizzard releases are mostly pretty balanced.
I guess it's to make sure the game itself makes all the races fun to play (or rather, not too frustrating to play against) that they are taking their time.

And charging for B.Net is stupid.
The only people stupid enough to make people pay extra charges to play online (MMOs set aside) are from Microsoft.
We all know that it isn't going well for them... right?

Re: Fuck, SCII delayed to next year - CaffeinePowered - 08-06-2009

They could just ask the Korean government for a monthly check instead of charging for BNet....they'd probably get it

Re: Fuck, SCII delayed to next year - Wedge - 08-06-2009

Eh, when they said make it "more like XBox Live" all they meant was adding friends lists, inter-game chat, etc. etc.  Y'know, all the stuff Steam does too.  Probably would have been a better comparison since you don't have to pay for that one.

We have fighting games too Honest. Smile I know a couple people who went to EVO. (it's held in a las vegas hotel ballroom and it was literally standing room only, 1500 people signed up for SF4 alone, and they held multiple other tournaments, not to mention side tournaments)

Re: Fuck, SCII delayed to next year - zaneyard - 08-07-2009

seriously though, i would actually watch TV if they had matches on

Oh yeah fighting games. But there's only like...well 1 fighting game I can take seriously for Tournaments and that's Street Fighter.

lolSupersmash tournament.

Now to go figure out how to make 50 bucks for SF4.

Re: Fuck, SCII delayed to next year - chronomaster - 08-08-2009

You know, at times I imagine the fervor in controlling the fate of Starcraft II is actually similar (if not the same) as the South Korean legislative process.

Those people are SERIOUS about their legislation.
Except there's multiple respectable fighting games in tournaments now. There's King of Fighters, there's MVC (as silly as the tiers are in that game), there's BlazBlue and Guilty Gear, there's Tekken and Soul Calibur.

The only thing out of that list I will call respectable is King of Fighters.

Haven't played BlazBlue but I hear good things so it gets a free pass.

MVC is pushing it, along with Guilty Gear. A good thing to play with your buddies but I can't take the competitive scene seriously, like with SSB.

Tekken and Soul Calibur I'd have to disagree with, then yell incoherently at you till I got bored, then possibly go make a hot pocket.

I'm gonna go make a hot pocket.
