I think they did that because people were selling keys  :p

Re: Dota 2 - backfire - 03-05-2012

Well then it's about as useful as that mobile steam giftpass then. The game doesn't even have a training mode so I have no idea what anything does.

I'll be over in any other thread if anyone needs me.

Implying you don't learn how to play the game just like how you learn everything else.

Re: Dota 2 - Trace - 03-05-2012

Cbreeze picked up the game with no prior experience, not saying you won't get stomped but how else will you learn? There's a few of us here who are also willing to show others the ropes, you just gotta ask  :p

Basically this.

Play with us and you'll learn along with the rest of us.

Got my ass stomped a lot at first, but I have a positive record now so I am happy. Speaking of which, I'll be back to playing again as soon as I finish this paper on John Cage.

Quote:Unfortunately, DotA has a massive learning curve.

You need to play each of the 108 heroes at least once each to have basic understanding of the power levels of each hero.

Each game takes on average 30-50 minutes. Prepare to play a lot of DotA.

Re: Dota 2 - cbre88x - 03-06-2012

Don't have to play each hero, just have to know what they are capable of doing. There are a pool of heroes that most people play so widdle down that 110ish to more like 15-20 heroes.

Re: Dota 2 - Trace - 03-07-2012

As much as it's the supports job to buy wards and what not, it never hurts for other team members to occasionally buy them. I fucking hate when people give me shit about not buying wards when I get the courier and let them have all the farm.

Also as far as pub games go, heroes can sometimes operate outside their normal roles and you shouldn't cling so tightly to your preconceived notions about what makes an optimal team. In most cases synergy and skill go a lot farther than anything else.

Re: Dota 2 - Eschatos - 03-07-2012

If that comment was directed at me, I get where you're coming from.  I freely admit to bitching about wards whenever I play a carry.  Then again when I play any other role I buy lots of wards.  As for the "heroes operating outside normal roles" that's cool, but me getting stuck soloing against invoker and someone else at the beginning, and then Tiny and Kunkka taking literally all the available farm in the middle really fucked up me playing any kind of reasonable role as Drow.  If people had announced at the beginning what they were intending to do I wouldn't have tried to pick for a standard team comp and would have played a support.

Re: Dota 2 - Trace - 03-07-2012

It wasn't specifically for you, as I've encountered these things in almost every game I play. It's just these kind of things that stop me from enjoying the game sometimes, and it would be cool if people lightened up a bit because as hardcore competitive as the game is it's still a game and the purpose is to have fun. Which is something I think the moba community forgets a lot.

Re: Dota 2 - zaneyard - 03-07-2012

well when people play a competitive team game we can't have half the people playing serious and half the people in derp mode
i understand when someone says lets all pick riki in the beginning of the game that it's not going to be a serious game
but when no one says anything and it sure seems like we have a legit team comp then i'm going to be thinking that it's a serious game.
When you're investing an hour of your time i'd rather know what i'm getting myself into.

it's all about expectations

like if i meet a girl that says she doesn't want to be in a serious relationship, it's my fault if i get mad that i'm friend zoned.

Re: Dota 2 - Trace - 03-07-2012

I was more talking about attitude than competitive vs. derp comp. People can be completely be serious about the game but also not be dicks about it. Instead of "WHY THE FUCK DON'T WE HAVE WARDS, FAIL SUPPORT GG" I would much rather prefer "Hey could you buy some wards? thanks".
