Screw Attack's best VGM List - CaffeinePowered - 10-23-2008 http://www.gametrailers.com/player/41663.html I whole-heartedly agree with most of these selections, especially #1 and #2 Re: Screw Attack's best VGM List - Wedge - 10-23-2008 No Mitsuda = Fail =< Re: Screw Attack's best VGM List - copulatingduck - 10-23-2008 "Best Classic Video Game Themes" would've been a more apt title. Seriously. I can agree with calling it "A list so controversial that none can be correct" but in this case it just feels like a cop-out for donning the retro goggles. Re: Screw Attack's best VGM List - Dave - 10-23-2008 megaman 3 intro > wileys theme. Well, two of them are more timeless than classic, since they're still being used (the FF and Zelda themes). Honestly though, I don't blame them for going retro. How much music from current games to you still remember? There is some real great stuff that gets put out, but just not as much. and most of it really just isn't that memorable. I will agree that nostalgia likely plays a big part in this, but there is still a reason that probably every single one of those songs gets constantly remixed in mp3s and youtube videos. I actually like the "you might not agree with our list, and that's okay" that they've done for their top 10s for awhile now. Seems like it's a bit of a cop out, but it is true... It's their personal picks, not ours. The only thing that really stands out to me from the last several years is 'Still Alive' (which I think should be on the list) and some of the music from Mother 3. I think part of this is due to the fact that less games use original music, a lot of it is music from regular artists and not made specifically for that particular game. The other part is that in the past I think more emphasis was placed on music due to the limited ability of graphics to set the mood. If you can't set the mode and atmosphere with great graphics, use music and sound effects to do it. Re: Screw Attack's best VGM List - Wedge - 10-24-2008 Actually, now that I think of it, everything about that list fails for not having the credits song from God Hand. That is easily one of the greatest game "theme's" EVER. Re: Screw Attack's best VGM List - ScottyGrayskull - 10-24-2008 Lol... "God power keep my pimp hand strong" +1! Re: Screw Attack's best VGM List - s0lesurviv0r - 10-25-2008 I'm really surprised that Yuzo Koshiro's stuff (Actraiser, Streets of Rage) didn't make that list. Re: Screw Attack's best VGM List - JoKeRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR - 10-25-2008 I put the Duck Tales song on the same level as the songs from Mega Man 2 so I don't see how it made the list. As far as more modern music goes this and this could easily be in the top 10. Re: Screw Attack's best VGM List - cannedpeahes - 10-25-2008 All the wrong choices from those games, and they could have happily thrown in some modern stuff: the Half-Life games have excellent music, if no consistent theme, and I personally would have put the Battlefield theme on there. Also, the way they do videos just annoys the hell out of me. Re: Screw Attack's best VGM List - [fr31ns]Karrde - 10-25-2008 Oh, yeah, also, Dave's totally right. MGS2 had some really damn good music regardless of what you thought of the game (I liked it). And everything Koh Otani (Shadow of the Colossus, other games, and a ton of anime) touches is instant gold. Think I'll liste to the SotC OST now Re: Screw Attack's best VGM List - K2 - 10-25-2008 (10-25-2008, 10:49 AM)JoKeRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR link Wrote: I put the Duck Tales song on the same level as the songs from Mega Man 2 so I don't see how it made the list. If we can only pick one song per franchise, I have to go with this for Shadow of the Colossus. Or maybe this. Or this. Or possibly this. Dammit, this game has too much great music. I can just picture it being reworked on a violin solo. Beautiful. How could I have forgotten MGS! My god that had some epic music, and that theme is unmistakable. Even the music that plays at the main menu for MGS4 is memorable. Also, I'll probably catch some shit for this... but Halo's theme is pretty sweet and memorable (the original, not the more guitar heavy remix). |
