It uses console like match making, after you get a group of 8 friends it will randomly find an empty server for you.
Or you can type 'openserverbrowser' in the console and browse manually.

When I was playing demo, I actually enjoyed dieing and even getting screwed. Hasn't happened with any other game I've played.
Then again, maybe you guys are talking about versus mode, which I don't really care about at all.
